YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS CRAZY LOO SIGN!

May 10, 2017

I always expect to see something new when I go on holiday.

I didn’t, however, expect to see this.

As a Coeliac, I’ve spent more than my fair share of time in loos and haven’t really found much that’s funny about them, so it was a real treat to see this on the wall.

You’ve probably done a double-take at the photo.

Yep, it’s instructions on how to use the loo. And where was I? Some remote island where toilet-training is in its infancy?

Nope. I was in Melbourne, Australia. (I thought I’d better clarify the continent in case you thought it was another lesser known Melbourne. You know – the one where everyone is new to the concept of loos.)

An undiagnosed Coeliac knows all too well the drudgery of frequent loo trips. And being glutened after diagnosis is a rather unpleasant reminder of ghosts of gluten past. But a sign like this reminded me to take comfort in the small things.

Warning: the next sentence is rather graphic…

When dealing with a gluten episode, the last thing on my mind is to climb onto the toilet seat and position myself so I could spatter my feet with the contents of my bowels. As if that’s not bad enough, the final picture suggests I might then chuck my used loo paper outside the toilet bowl.

Who are these people who need these picture instructions?!

Hmm, perhaps it’s best not to know the answer to that.
