You've probably looked at the above title twice. Gluten-free? For the skin? Doesn't she know Coeliacs have to ingest gluten in order for it to cause problems?
Well yes, but herein lies two issues:
* Handling a gluten-containing product can then transfer onto food (e.g. your lunchtime sandwich) and let's face it, why would you wash your hands after applying a moisturiser or similar?
** This page isn't just for Coeliacs. There are plenty of people who need gluten-free skincare.
So I was really pleased to find local skincare shop Amphora Aromatics stocking a huge range of gluten-free and vegan products (note: not all the products are gluten-free but the majority are). Not only that, but they've just won a FreeFrom Skincare Award (click here for details).
I was sent the Frankincense & Rose Face Toner to try.
Toner, you cry? Do you mean for toning up your biceps?
Erm, no, not quite. If you've not used a toner before, this one claims to "leave skin revived and rehydrated...or to refresh tired skin throughout the day".
For anyone like me who's a little sceptical about the use of scented (particularly rose-scented) products, fear not. This toner smells great. And this accolade comes from someone who shies away from Turkish Delight. (Seriously: me refusing a sugary confection? Well, only the rosewater ones.)
Anyway, back to the toner. I can't think why I haven't bought a toner for years. In the recent summer heat we've been having, applying this toner is a joy. I don't think I have anything else in my bathroom that does a similar job - i.e. cooling me down whilst preparing my skin for its morning moisturiser.
And if you're wondering what the end result is, just take a look at the pic on the right. Yup, that'll be my pre-workout morning face!
